The Nixon Hotel

A very rambunctious atmosphere, plenty busy. Quietens off once the game starts though because it's conveniently located directly across from marvel stadium. This place has all the sports on the screens, betting facilities for the ones who like to take risks with there money. Food was grouse, good quality and serving sizes. Salt & pepper calamari was tender and juicy. Beers were cold and service was golden. Meals came out fast AF by the way.

The place is good but the main food is not to my liking. The linguine I ordered is too bland and they put too many tomatoes in it. I liked their finger food like onion rings and cauliflower rolls. The place is good and staff are friendly. I liked their drinks even though it's full of ice. I had strawberry mocktail and it's too refreshing.

After hearing a lot about them, my brother and I each ordered the steak sandwich with a pint of the tank Carlton Draught. The steak sandwich had good ingredients and was filling, but it was poorly prepared. The steak was well cooked and high quality – not rubbery or sinewy, which made it easy to eat. The bread didn't fall apart and wasn't tough. However, the egg was unsalted and undercooked, with the whites still runny (arguably, the yolk shouldn't be runny either, as it makes for a messy affair. Or perhaps ask the customer their preference). The steak was also unsalted, which meant there was little flavour able to come through the sandwich. The mustard aioli didn't help – it was thinly spread and too weak for this kind of sandwich. It needed a stronger combination like caramelised onion/onion relish. The chips were a good portion, crispy and well seasoned. I enjoyed it more than the sandwich, honestly. The tank beer was fantastic, as expected. The trivia was enjoyable, with a fun, easy going host. Staff were friendly and service was fast, and receptive to my feedback. Overall, good potential, but not quite there. Based on this experience, I probably wouldn't return without an Entertainment Book voucher.

The meals are large but really bad, To start with the Garlic bread is just bland, Then i had The Egg Plant parmy and it was not cooked it was still hard, not the gooey goodness you want from cooked egg plant. The salad was also not fresh and the chips over cooked. The waitress was great, but the bar staff had no interest. I really don't like leaving bad reviews but this was really just ordinary food.
